Helping Others: Viola Volunteers

Viola manages a 24/7 video call service for any person who wants to be safe when they are walking home, traveling alone, or just wants company when they are walking at night. In order to be able to provide such a service, Viola utilizes volunteers who are carefully selected and trained by our team.

In order to be selected as a volunteer you have to meet a selection criteria. You must have an English level of B2 and you also are required to work a minimum of 4 hours per week and a minimum of 1 weekend shift per month. Make sure you are able to be available for the minimum required hours as this is important for being a volunteer. After you get selected you must go through a short training call with one of the Viola team members before getting started.

Before a typical Viola volunteer shift you would first need to choose which hours and which days to work. During your shift you are expected to reply to chats and calls. You also have to utilize soft skills such as empathy, careful listening, and decision making.

A Viola volunteer is someone who is caring and able to connect with people. Our volunteers take pride in being a part of an organization that can help other people feel safe. You will be working with a tight knit group of other volunteers and we hope to make you feel like you are at home while you are with us.

If this sounds like something you are interested in doing, please complete an application at https://www.violawalkhome.com/volunteer/ and wait for further information from a team member. Become a volunteer to help build a safer, wiser, and stronger community and challenge the complex issues of gender violence.
