Apple has recently announced that this Fall they will be launching their new update, iOS 17. They previewed the new features that will be available and are planning to release the update in September along with the newest iPhone. While there are several features coming with iOS 17, there are a few safety features that are important to know about.
One safety feature is the ability to download an area on Maps to use when you are offline. This is useful if you are in an area that loses service and don’t know where you are or where to go. By having the map downloaded, you can easily get directions despite not having cell service. This is especially useful for people who go hiking or are often in areas where the cell connection can be spotty.
The next safety feature worth noting is an easier ability to share your location using Find my Friends. Sharing your location will now be more efficient to do directly from your home screen. In addition, friends and family will be able to see your location update live within your iMessage chat. This feature directly connects to one of the primary safety features being added with iOS 17.
A main safety feature being released is called “Check In.” Check In essentially allows your friends and family to receive an alert when you make it to your final destination. Additionally, Check In tracks your location on your route and takes action if you stop making progress. Check In will send a message to you checking if everything is ok, and if you don’t respond, the program acts immediately by sharing helpful information with your friends or family members. This information will include location, battery level, and cell service status of your iPhone. This feature is to ensure that you make it home safely.
The Viola app will always be available for download on the iPhone to further ensure your safety. The app is there with a volunteer ready to walk with you as you go from one place to another. The Viola app will track your location as you walk and can notify emergency services if something goes wrong. To learn more about the app, visit our website at Violawalkhome.com.
