Our service is run thanks to the people who have donated their time to make our streets safer. Meet one of our volunteers who help make this organization possible.
Li is a nine-teen year old from Ukraine studying political science at the University of Vienna. She volunteers at least 4 hours a week usually in the evenings, however her hours vary considering she is a full time student.
Her story with us starts in 2021 after she had graduated highschool and saw people posting on their instagram about Viola. Li has followed us ever since and once she saw that we were looking for volunteers in German speaking countries she filled out an online survey. Since then, she has now started interviewing potential candidates and is involved in the HR team. Li enjoys getting to know people from different backgrounds and interviewing them because she likes to learn about their motivations behind wanting to help other people as well as what they do for a living.
“I have been a part of Viola since November and I honestly really love it. I love the team. I love the people. They are so so kind.”
Li believes that it is great to help people even if you are just sitting at home doing nothing, because someone else may really appreciate it. She has used the Viola video service before so she understands the feeling of being on both sides of the call. “You can help someone by doing so little, but it means so much to them”.
Aside from Viola, Li has volunteered for a student organization for exchange groups where she checks in on abroad students as well as host families. She is passionate about activism and has been a part of the socialist youth since 2021.
If you are thinking about becoming a volunteer, a piece of advice from Li is to be prepared to talk to strangers online and consider having a call with a friend late at night first to see if you like it. She believes that Viola is important because we help spread awareness for gender based violence across europe and all over the world.
