Viola operates a 24/7 video call service for anyone that wants to be accompanied when they’re going home at night. Meet one of the users who got home safely using Viola. Our user is a 17 year old who lives in the northern west coast of Germany in a small farm town.
She started off using a different video call service when she would go on her routine walks that go through a forest near where she lives. However after that video call service had shut down she was unsure about going on her walks through the forest because it was comforting to her to have a safety app. After searching online for another similar service she finally stumbled upon Viola on an instagram advertisement. She has followed us ever since.
One night she went out with her friends to the clubs in her hometown. Unfortunately she could not find a reliable ride after so she was thinking about walking the 1.5 miles home that went through the forest. Unsure about having to walk home alone at night, she decided to message Viola on instagram and found a volunteer who was happy to schedule a call with her. She was having so much fun at the party she decided to push the call back another hour, which the volunteer said was no problem.

Later on in the night she ended up meeting a nice guy who said his friend was coming to pick him up and they would gladly give her a ride so she did not have to walk. She contemplated getting into the car with him because they had just met, but ultimately accepted the ride. The guy she met sat in the front seat with his friend and our user still went on her video call with one of our volunteers to make her feel more comfortable. She said ”If I wouldn’t have used it I wouldn’t have felt as safe”.
She thinks Viola is important because she has seen and heard the dangers in her small town where most people walk everywhere. She said Viola was easy to schedule through Instagram messages and she really likes how she is able to talk to a real person on the phone and not just a computer.
